PLA from plants
Our pendants are 3D printed to order in PLA (polylactic acid), a plastic substitute made from renewable raw materials such as corn starch or sugar cane.
We chose it because the material is carbon neutral and biodegradable, whereas ABS – the other plastic commonly used for 3D printing – is oil-based or petrochemical based.
They don't biodegrade too quickly though. PLA takes a couple of centuries, not a couple of years, to break down.
Our necklaces are available in ten different colours of PLA, including "90s collides with the future" colour-change green/yellow.
PLA is made from starch. The most common source of this starch is corn
The starch is extracted and then fermented
