Genesh

Our cotton twill with 5% stretch and denim with 5% stretch are sourced by Genesh in Kerala. He buys the fabrics from GOTS certified factories in China and then dyes them before shipping them to Organic Textile Company.
The twill is used to make our Boyfriend Trousers and with the denim we make the Zoe Dresses, Josie dresses and hopefully very soon dungarees!

He also makes his own 100% organic cotton fabrics artisanally in small batches of 100 to 300 metres. Its yarns are dyed by hand and then woven by hand on small power looms.
Genesh's Global Organic Textile Standard certified cotton is grown without the use of harmful pesticides; instead it uses pheromone traps, crop rotation, hand picking of bugs and natural repellents.
Growing organically lets farmers live a more prosperous and healthier life. They receive more for their crop and aren't reliant on costly chemicals and fertilisers. They can safely grow food and keep animals. In fact, sheep graze in the Genesh cotton fields after the crop is harvested, fertilising the fields naturally with dung.
The same goes for their weavers, many of whom now run their own mini businesses, owning a small power loom and working from home, controlling the means of production, workload and productivity. The business often employs all the adults in the family: one parent weaves, the other winds the pins, elders wind bobbins.
